Mutating plants to make more than just ALA?

April 2010, Xtend-Life Expert

Summary

According to this article, plant prototypes have been genetically modified to boost their omega-3 content beyond alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). It seems that scientists in Australia have used GM methods to create new plants with more omega-3 fatty acids.

A large-scale farm is expected to be the scientists’ next project, although the results are not expected for at least another 10 to 15 years. However, the big question still remains…would you be satisfied taking omega-3s from a genetically mutated source?

At Xtend-Life, our Omega 3 / DHA Fish Oil and Omega 3 / DHA Fish Oil Premium are sourced from a pure, natural, and sustainable species…namely Hoki fish. Being on hand to oversee the quality, manufacturing and handling of these products, I can confidently say I am so glad that NO genetic mutations occur anywhere throughout the Xtend-Life fish oil production process…from ship to soft gel.

Also, remember that omega-3s from plants do NOT contain the essential long chain fatty acids DHA and EPA and also the lesser known DPA.
