San Francisco approves cellphone radiation law
If you’re going to San Francisco, forget wearing flowers in your hair…instead look out for important notices in retail stores selling cellphones. These notices will provide details on the level of radiation emitted by the various cellphone models available at the store.
According to this article, the law requires retailers to post information on what is called the "specific absorption rate" (SAR) of its products. The SAR rates measure the amount of radio wave radiation from cellphones that are absorbed into body tissue.
Some people are concerned that prolonged usage of mobile phones can lead to brain cancer as well as other health concerns such as infertility in men…especially if the handset is kept in pockets near the groin. However, the following excerpt from the abovementioned article says otherwise:
"The Federal Communication Commission, which regulates cell phone safety along with the Food and Drug Administration, states on its Web site ‘there is no scientific evidence to date that proves that wireless phone usage can lead to cancer or a variety of other health effects,’ but goes on to note that ‘studies are ongoing’."
At the moment, no cellphone sold in the United States can have a SAR in excess of 1.6 watts per kilogram.
Considering the increasing pace of the world and how fast society is moving, we are relying ever more on cellphones and mobile devices to provide us with our daily news updates and information as well as keep us connected to family and friends.
With no clear evidence to indicate the true extent of the health risks potentially associated with prolonged cellphone use, we can only suggest that you try to find way of reducing the time you spend talking on a mobile device. Consider the following…although the FCC says that cellphones are safe…are they really? The Dental Association says that amalgam fillings are safe…but are they?
