The Truth About HRT And Why Bio-Identical Hormones Are On The Rise

These days, many women around the age of 50 are becoming understandably concerned about their feminine health and overall wellbeing. Especially when they are faced with the decision of whether or not to undergo Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).

The only solution available to these women was to undergo HRT using synthetic hormones... such as those derived from the urine of pregnant horses. These HRT treatments are often a chemical cocktail of additives and synthetic hormones formulated to try achieve the same effect as the natural hormones found in the body.

Let’s take Premarin for example... it contains mostly estrone and a number of equine (horse) estrogens that are not natural to humans. To use an analogy, it would be like putting standard unleaded petrol into a diesel engine and expecting it to work because in essence, fuel is fuel isn’t it?

No, it isn’t. When these foreign estrogens bond with human estrogen receptors, the combination is highly inflammatory and carcinogenic. Synthetic hormones are toxic, regardless of the form in which they’re prescribed.

One just has to look at the recent study known as the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI). It was studying the effects of the commonly prescribed HRT combination for women with menopause. The combination is made up of Premarin (which is conjugated equine estrogens) and Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate).

To cut a long story short, this study had to be stopped because of the increased risk of breast cancer, heart attacks, blood clots, and stroke from using this HRT combination!

Despite highlighting the dangers of HRT, this study also unfortunately confused many people...creating the perception that “all hormones are bad for you” which resulted in some women not looking at the benefits of bio-identical natural hormone therapy, in those cases where hormone therapy is really warranted. By the way, you may be asking yourself why don’t the makers of HRT just use bio-identical hormones? The answer is simple... they cannot be patented.

So What About Bio-Identical (Natural) Hormones?

Well, if you look at current published medical findings, it’s clearly obvious that natural hormones are by far better than the synthetic ones. Natural, bio- identical hormones are very different to the synthetic versions because they have totally different physiological effects on the body, effects that are supposed to be natural to the body.

The quantum to administer bio-identical hormones is based on a comprehensive panel of blood tests to determine the various levels.

The basic building blocks of the identical hormone’s compound are provided by using naturally occurring hormone precursors like diosgenin from plants such as Wild Yam, the same plant-based ingredient we use in our comprehensive Total Balance Women's product.

Basically, bio-identical hormones are identical to the hormones in our own bodies. Best of all, because they’re not synthetic, their effects are consistent with your body’s normal biochemistry and endocrine system

Our hormones are vital to every systemic function in the body, if these hormones are balanced accordingly, then our bodies work and function optimally. During PMS or menopause, this equilibrium is broken due to hormonal imbalances and cause distress and various other health concerns.

You can help support your body’s natural hormone balance by taking Total Balance Women's or for a few more dollars per month, you can upgrade to the Total Balance Women's Premium product. Both supplements are packed with all the nutrients, vitamins, enzymes and amino-acids your body needs, especially a blend of natural ingredients which may help provide female health support.

If your doctor insists on prescribing a synthetic HRT therapy, ask him/her to seriously consider a bio-identical hormone treatment. If not, find a GP nearby who specializes in this natural hormone treatment. However, hormone therapy of any sort should only be a last resort as there is the potential to make your system ‘lazy’. It is important to help strengthen your own system in balancing your hormones which is what we aim to do with our supplements.
