Why Those Sit-Ups You're Doing Won't Help You Lose Belly Fat
It's a common complaint among those looking to lose a few extra kilos around their bellies: "I do 100 sit-ups every day and I still haven’t lost weight." What many people forget is that abdominal exercises like sit-ups and those crazy devices advertised on late night infomercials only strengthen the abdominal core.
This is good because a strong core can definitely help you improve your posture, breathing, balance, gait and many other health benefits... except weight loss.Doing an infinite amount of sit-ups still won’t give you that ‘six-pack’ look. This is because the stomach muscles that make up the ‘six-pack’ are hidden by abdominal fat. Abdominal exercises may give you core strength but they certainly won’t reveal your stomach muscles. Muscle definition almost always doesn't equal also complement muscle strength.
I know many guys who could lose a few kilos around their midriff yet each one is as strong as an ox and wouldn't seem out of place in a good rugby team. There are many other people who have impressive muscle definition yet lack muscle strength balance (the ratio of power exerted by two opposing muscle groups).
In order to lose belly fat, you need to follow a healthy balanced diet and combine this with a structured exercise routine. Cardiovascular activities and healthy eating may very well help you lose weight and belly fat.
Nourishing your body with the right ingredients, like those found in Total Balance and Omega 3 DHA Fish Oil, may also complement your health/exercise routine.
Don’t stop doing the sit-ups though. These are important if done correctly. You may also like to try activities that really help fire up your core – strength and cardio wise – such as Pilates, yoga, Tai-Chi, stand-up paddle boarding, shadow boxing and even dancing.
