Being Fit Does Not Always Mean Healthy

Ever wondered why some famous athletes drop dead during the peak of their careers…or, why a champion marathon runner looks older than their age? Surely, you’d think that someone who is in the peak of physical fitness would also be healthy?

Sadly, that’s not always the case!

Being fit does not mean being healthy. In fact, many fitness enthusiasts look good on the outside but are in really bad shape on the inside! Why is this?

Well, as with everything to do with health, there are multiple reasons. They may not eat a balanced diet but rather focus on foods that will enhance their performance in their chosen sport, thereby missing out on essential nutrients.

But…the biggest problem is that their bodies are much more susceptible to the ravages of free radicals than that of the average person. This is because their intake of free radicals is much higher due to their greater intake of oxygen. A ‘normal’ individual would take a much longer time to intake the same amount of oxygen and free radicals that a marathon runner ‘ingests’ during a ‘normal’ training week.

Fitness supplements to fight free radicals

This is why some marathon runners and athletes look old before their time. Their bodies are suffering degeneration by not counteracting the higher levels of free radicals that they are subject to in their sport. We all need an adequate intake of anti-oxidants to combat free radicals, but, athletes need more! The more exertion they put into their sport, the higher the levels of anti-oxidants they need.

If you’re an athlete, you will not be able to get all the nutrients you need from a basic multi- vitamin/mineral supplement. You need targeted fitness supplements with much higher levels of antioxidants. The best fitness supplements also contain natural anti-inflammatory nutrients to counteract the increased levels of inflammation created by a heavy training programme.

This is why so many athletes around the world have come to trust and rely on Total Balance and Omega 3 QH/Ultra as the corner stone of their supplement regime. For athletes looking to boost their protein intake, Zupa Protein Greenz is a beneficial addition to your current nutritional regime.

Do You Know Your Fitness Age? Here’s Why You Should

As we watch our birthdays come and go, some of us accept the aging process gracefully, while others -after eating a congratulatory slice of cake, of course - have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into another year, and usually won’t admit anything but being 29, 39 or 49 etc. (for the seventh year in a row). While age is relative – you’re only as young as you feel, after all – your fitness ...

More Proof That Exercise During Pregnancy Can Benefit Both Mums And Their Babies

Most people acknowledge that exercise is good for the body, but there are still some people who can be critical of mums-to-be who do regular light bouts of exercise. Their argument is that this ‘strenuous activity’ is harmful for both the woman and her unborn child. It’s unfortunate that this perception still exists in this day and age...especially when you consider that more research is pro...
