"Meat, to me, is a superfood because of its nutrient density - it has all of the healthy fats, iron, other minerals, all the complete proteins...there are just so many reasons that meat is essentially a superfood."

Meat is almost a complete food and it's highly nutrient dense. But when we talk about eating meat, we're not just talking about muscle meat, we're talking about organ meat. If you just eat the muscle you get a lot of great stuff you'll get b6 and b12 and iron, but it's when you add in the organs, heart and liver and spleen and pancreas or other organs that's when everything comes together.

Trust the science

There are a lot of studies out there with evidence on both sides, but get to know who's behind them as science can have an agenda. Learn about...

- The way many studies that say meat is a carcinogen focus on processed meat.

- A study of 112000 men and 84 000 women did not provide evidence of a higher risk of mortality for total meat intake, in fact, red meat was associated inversely with cardiovascular disease in men and with cancer mortality in women in Asian countries.

- How people who lived to over 100 in Okinawa almost exclusively they were omnivore and they had no vegetarians.

- How a bacon-based diet appeared to protect against carcinogenesis - pork actually protected those rats against colon cancer.

- A study that showed if you give rats tallow from suet it decreases the formation of precancerous lesions relative to soybean oil.

Acknowledge what we don’t know

Science is important, but animal organs are made by nature, not a laboratory. It’s true we don't actually know what some of the nutrients are for, you just know they're important at some level. It may be a long time before they're fully decoded but in the meantime you can make sure you get them in an ancestral diet and you're covered until the science comes home.

Hear the anecdotes

There are many claims that animal-based diets have helped with long-term health issues, with people claiming carnivore diets have reversed ulcerative colitis or helped with eczema or psoriasis. Even more impressively “I cheat sometimes and it comes back.” Sometimes hearing the experience of others can be as compelling as the science.

Learn about the role of supplements

Organ meats are hard to cook, and contain nutrients that are very temperature sensitive, and even if you get them perfect some people just don’t like them. Supplements are the modern, convenient way of getting all those peptides all those nutrients perfectly preserved, as if you're eating a few ounces the real thing, without all the hassle.

Why You Need to Listen to this Podcast

Is meat a super villain or a superfood? Are organ meats the most nutrient-dense foods on our planet? These and many more questions all answered in this conversation between Ivor Cummins and Dr. Paul Saladino. Ivor is currently the Chief Program Officer for Irish Heart Disease Awareness and has been intensively researching the root causes of modern chronic disease. Paul is the leading authority on the science and application of the carnivore diet.

Take it all with a dose of realism

Ancestral human evolutionary food doesn't guarantee it's going to make you live forever you know paleo and eating what our distant ancestors ate is a much safer diet inherently because it's how we evolved it doesn't mean it's magical.

Why Supplements?

“I think wow I want to eat as much of the animal as possible but I can't always get a pancreas or a spleen or people don't always want to eat a spleen that's why I think that the desiccated organs are amazing and putting them in capsules could really help people long term ultimately we just want people to get more organs in their diet and eat nose to tail and not be afraid of animal foods - however, they do it is awesome”

Organ meats require a certain skill in cooking to make them appetizing and some people instinctively don't – you can't just throw them in the pan like a rib-eye steak or you get a leathery outcome. Not only that, but you need to be careful not to overcook the organs or you lose many of the peptides and other nutrients. Even if you get all of this right, some people instinctively just don't like them.

So supplements are the modern, convenient way of getting all those peptides all those nutrients perfectly preserved as if you're eating a few ounces of the real thing and so simple. Having organ meats in a supplement means people are improving their lives with just a capsule of organs.

Of course, we hope that it's in the context of dietary change and lifestyle change too, but imagine giving someone a capsule and seeing just a little bit of an improvement and then it sparks a change and sometimes it's a big improvement they really feel the difference because these organs are so uniquely nutrient-rich.

Supplements take the incredible nutrient density of organ meats and put them through a freeze drying process that keeps all the goodness and gets them into a form that's more easy for people to access.

So you know you're getting the best possible alternative to finding those organ meats and cooking them yourself. to make these part of your daily diet but for a lot of people that won't be practical or they won't really sustain the habit and therefore this is a perfect product for those people

Why Organ Ultra?

Xtend-Life Organ Ultra is a natural product containing liver, kidney, heart, pancreas, and thymus. It's produced in Christchurch, Canterbury - right in the middle of sheep country, where we have access to the finest producers of 100% grass-fed New Zealand sheep, which have been raised in the most natural environment, under strict regulations.

We recognize Organ meats are great, but combining them makes them even better to cover the full range of nutrients you want to eat different types of organ meats because they have varying degrees of varying nutrients.

Health Benefits of Organ Ultra

GRASS-FED LIVER (1800MG)

The liver is nature's most nutrient-dense superfood and it makes sense to have it at the core of our Organ Ultra formulation. It provides a meaningful source of vitamin A, heme iron (more easily absorbed than iron from plant sources), B12, choline and folate). It supports liver health, energy production, metabolism and methylation.

GRASS-FED KIDNEY (450MG)

Sheep kidney is rich in nutrients, proteins and omega 3s. It’s also a bio-available source of naturally occurring selenium and B12. Eating kidney can support kidney health, which in turn helps strengthen your body's detoxification pathways. The selenium can aid with immunity, blood flow, thyroid function and fertility, as well as having powerful antioxidant properties.

GRASS-FED PANCREAS (300MG)

The pancreas is the source of digestive enzymes and hormones that support and regulate blood sugar levels. Eating pancreas supports a strong functioning pancreas, and contributes an abundance of key enzymes for optimal digestion.

GRASS-FED HEART (300MG)

Sheep heart is a source of folate, iron and zinc, but most importantly it provides coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), one of the most potent antioxidants available. CoQ10 supports heart health, optimizes brain function, slows down the natural aging process and can boost energy levels through the mitochondria.

GRASS-FED THYMUS (150MG)

The thymus is rich in trace minerals, heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, and essential fat-soluble vitamins like A, E and K. It plays an important part of the immune system and extracts from it have been used to treat respiratory infections, asthma and autoimmune diseases.

How Ivor Cummins Inspired
Our Journey to Create Organ Ultra

Ivor Cummins first visited New Zealand in 2019 until November of last year

"It's an incredible country. It's also a country where they have the best grass-fed sheep in the world and those sheep also have highly nutrient-dense organ meats."

He was there to meet Warren Matthews who wanted to better design and produce products. After touring his purpose-built facility he was fascinated to go to all of those processes and check them out - full FDA regulated facility, state of the art clean rooms, equipment like 3d blending robotic and computer controlled and they have of course processes for encapsulation and micro encapsulation.

"Organ meats are a passion of mine. I eat them, my family eats them - the kids aren't so fantastic to be honest - but I wanted to take Warren on a journey to make a supplement made directly from the best organ meats in the world.”

Ivor doesn't generally promote products, but in this case the personal relationship and the hand he had in developing it and his complete confidence in the quality of Organ Ultra made him happy to endorse it.

We'll leave you with a last quote from Ivor which we think sums up

"This is the best product in the organ meat world ... you know you're getting the best possible alternative to finding those organ meats and cooking them yourselves".
